The Vegvísir Guides the Way Through the Storm
"...if this sign is carried, one will never lose one's way in storms or bad weather, even when the way is not known." —Huld Manuscript
The Vegvísir, or Norse compass, is an Icelandic magical stave which, according to the Huld manuscript, protects one from losing their way in bad weather. The vikings used the word "hafvilla" or "bewildered" which means to have no sense of direction or be lost at sea. This coin was created to help guide us through modern moments of hafvilla.
This wayfinder will help the holder navigate the rough journey of life, guiding them towards the correct path. Encircling the Vegvísir is the runic transliteration of the Icelandic phrase, "Ég stoppar ekki Þegar Þreyttur, ég stoppar Þegar ég er búinn", which translates to, "I do not stop when tired, I stop when done." This serves as a reminder token.
The solid bronze coin is struck with an incuse design, in which the letters are lowered rather than raised. This ensures the lettering will stay dark even if the coin is carried daily. Made in the USA using traditional hand engraving techniques, solid metal, and antique equipment, Shire Post Mint is committed to keeping old-world coinmaking craft alive.
Designed to be a long-lasting gift, this pendant is perfect for a significant other, family, friends, or coworkers. The product details are as follows:
Shire Post Mint, a small family-owned coin mint located in Arkansas, crafts this Vegvisir Norse Compass Necklace on Leather Cord. The company began in 2001 when Tom Maringer, a passionate coin collector with metalworking knowledge from knife-making, bought his first antique coin press.
Since then, Shire Post Mint has grown into an internationally recognized company known for attention to detail and a high level of craftsmanship, all while maintaining a nerdy flair. They craft coins from officially licensed properties and their original designs include Moons, Pizza Coins, Decision Makers, Bowling Ball Worry Stones, and more.
What makes Shire Post Mint's products unique is their use of hand-engraved steel dies, which are hardened and mounted in antique coin presses to strike the designs into solid metals. The entire process, from engraving to finishing and packaging, is done in-house at their West Fork, Arkansas workshop, ensuring full control over the quality.
The coins aimed to be made here at Shire Post Mint are "in-world", meaning they could come out of the pockets of a commoner or king. Visit the store to explore their collection of coins, charms, and more.
